That is why we call this website HealthHamster, because like a hamster we collect facts and knowledge and save the knowledge as a hamster would store food in its cheek pouches 🙂

Physical health, food and exercise:

Your lifestile, including the food you eat, the exercise you do, your mental health – all these things are vital for your general health.

The body’s ability to respond with inflammation is central to human survival, but the body’s inflammatory response to infection or irritation can become so strong or last so long that it weakens the body.
The food you eat can act either inflammatory or anti-inflammatory and if you continually eat the wrong food,it will cause your body to be in a constant state of alert, with a constant light inflammation.

Antioxidant-rich-foodsSaturated fat affects the body’s cells so they start an inflammation.
Unsaturated fat, especially omega-3 fedsyrer (as in fish or krill oil) has the opposite effect and anti-inflammatory.

Other kinds of foods as nuts, almonds, fish, avocado, olive- and rapeseed oil also has an anti-inflammatory
effect on the cells.

Smoking acts as a light chronic inflammtion, but quitting smoking rapidly stops the inflammation.

Physical activity is anti-inflammatory. Active muscles produces myokines of which some of them have a direct anti-inflammatory effect.
In addition, the regular exercise fights the fat between the internal organs. This kind of abdominal fat causes severe inflammation and secretes some inflammatory substances that increase the risk of blood clots. It is, inter alia, this that makes abdominal fat so dangerous.

We also know that the way we deal with the problems that arise in life is important for our overall health.

So you see how knowledge about your mental health, the food you eat and your activity in general is extremely important if you want to have a pleasant life.


Processed foods, trans fats, ice cream, sweetened yoghurt and in general empty calories can weaken the immune system and create a state of chronic inflammation.

What you should eat is:

Vegetables, fruit and berries, fish, all kinds of nuts, whole grain bread, olive oil and raspeseed oil, lots of garlic, onions, cayenne pepper, chili, ginger and all kinds of aromatic herbs.
Drink water, black or green tea,  vegetable juice, and avoid all kinds of soft drinks, made with sugar or, even worse, with artificial sweetener.
I know that most of us like to eat ice cream sometimes, drink soft drinks and eat cake and sweets, and I am not suggesting that you give it all up.
What I AM suggesting is that you think about what you eat, and maybe try to change you lifestyle to a more healthy, active lifestyle.

Mental health:

Among my closest relatives I have family members who are diagnosed with schizophrenia and I have a close friend with bipolar disorder.

I know that living with these diseases is not easy, neither for the person who suffers from the disease nor for the family and friends, but I also know that for most people it is possible to live satisfying lives with the right treatment for each person.
